Far Cry Primal is an action and adventure game set in the Stone Age, and it is a brilliant recreation of survival and instinct from the ancient past.

Ubisoft has captured the feeling of being trapped in a world of danger in a way that can scarcely be imagined if not experienced firsthand. Surviving day to day was a challenge in the Stone Age, and that struggle is something that is critical to the idea of life in that time. This was before man had cemented himself at the top of the food chain, and beasts roamed the land.

The game has a simple enough premise: you must regroup with your tribe in Oros, despite the fact your tribe is nearly destroyed and highly disjointed. As players travel through the different missions within the game, they will rescue lost members of the tribe, rebuild the village itself, and earn powers that will be helpful in completing the more complex and challenging aspects of the game. You will even get revenge on the tribes that originally sought to destroy your own.

Survival in this game is much deeper than simply avoiding the weapons of your enemies. You will have to build your own shelter, craft your own tools and weapons, and hunt your own food in the wild. There are resources scattered all throughout the land that can help you do these things.

The game might seem simple, but there are a number of things working against the player at all times. There are dangerous predators lurking around every corner, competing tribes with much more organization, and weather events that will stop your from progressing. Traveling at night is a horrible idea as well since that is when the most dangerous predators are active.

The fact that this game is set in the Stone Age is a huge factor toward its development as a story. The player can not use guns or other advanced weapons, so there is no other option but to build simple weapons from stones and sticks. Players can use these weapons to hunt and defend themselves against wild animals. It is even possible to tame wild animals if they are dealt with properly.

As with any well-made action game, the sequences are paced evenly and quite intense. It is vital that the player remain constantly vigilante so as to avoid ambushes, and attacking must be timed perfectly for optimal success.

To aid the player, the game highlights important elements within the local environment, and the tool is quite similar to other Ubisoft games like Assassin's Creed or Tomb Raider. The surrounding noises are amplified, and the player can get a quick glance at the most important things around.

Far Cry Primal is also unique in that the player can work against other tribes in an attempt to scalp their members. When the player succeeds at gaining new tribe members from an existing tribe, they receive new powers that will help advance the story.
